Long before going back to school and changing careers, I dreamed about authoring an article in Mosaic because I wanted to be able to reach people, the way other authors were reaching me. It never failed, if I had a problem, Mosaic offered me solutions! So once I graduated, I knew Mosaic was the place to offer the Heilkunst solution to the greatest number of like-minded people.
And what a blessing it has proven to be! That first article single-handedly built my business! Since grade three I was sure it was my destiny to be a writer. And despite the fact that I graduated from Grant MacEwan College’s Journalism Program in 1985, after winning awards for being at the top of my class every year, I discovered that I didn’t like being a reporter. After working at two different weekly newspapers I realized that the life of a weekly newspaper reporter was absolutely not for me. Feeling a little defeated that my educational choice had not produced the career I dreamed of, I would often wish that I could work for a magazine that I loved and really believed in.
I went on to work at different positions, never quite giving up on my dream of being a writer. When I lived in Saudi Arabia with my husband, I dabbled in journalism again by spending my time creating, writing and producing a professional newsletter/magazine for a large engineering and development firm there. Back in Canada I worked as an Executive Assistant at TELUS (in the Office of the President) before leaving to have my daughter in 2000. My whole life changed dramatically that year and I began a new life path, taking many different personal and spiritual development courses including many levels in John Upledger’s CranioSacral Therapy, Doreen Virtue’s Angel Therapy Practitioner Course and much more.
When the amazing opportunity to take over Mosaic Magazine came in January 2004, I felt like my secret wishes and dreams had come true! I quickly used my knowledge of journalism and my love for personal and spiritual development to expand the magazine from three to four issues a year (in 2005). I focused on featuring articles that were truly informative and helpful, spiffed up the color, added some marvelous local art and changed the layout style to a clean and professional look. The magazine is always evolving and now it is all gloss! The magazine’s circulation increases every issue as it continues to expand to more and more places and people in Alberta.
It takes a lot of heart and soul to make a great magazine that can touch, motivate and help thousands of people and I’m so proud that Mosaic Magazine does this!
